In continuation to my previous Park Yoochun post….
I cannot stand all this victim blaming.
It happens all the time. It was brought up in this book I’m currently reading that takes place in Ghandi-era India. It happens all the time in Asian countries, especially media-influenced ones like Korea. I applaud Dream High for addressing that issue in their drama.
Basically, in Dream High’s case, which happens too much in Korea’s pop society, is a girl can get sexually assaulted, but they don’t want to come out to the public to get the guy who abused them in trouble. Why? Because of the victim blaming. Somehow people will twist the story around to make it seem like it was the victim’s fault. No one will come out to accuse the attacker because it will taint the victim.
It’s disgusting.
Like rape victims being told, “Oh. You provoked them. You led them on. You were asking for it.”
And it’s happening in this case, as well.
Personally, although it is unclear what truly happened, I still think it’s pretty clear that Park Yoochun did in fact slap that girl and pull her hair.
However, his star-struck fans blindly defend him saying, “Oh, oppa didn’t mean it!!!1!!1” and “He was just massaging her head.” <— i saw that comment. lolwut. excuses.
“Oh he was just defending himself. She was trying to hit him!”
“That little butt hole. Trying to hit our Yoochun.”
Sigh. I’m done. This is from 2009. But it’s not just this that riles me up. It’s everything. It just makes me mad.
Victim blaming doesn’t even make sense. You should comfort the victim, not turn everything against them.
And the victim blamed tends to always be a girl. Why is that?
